Welcome to Year 5!

 This term we will be focusing on the topic of Invaders!  We will be discovering when and why the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons came to Britain and what life was like at this time in history. In Science, we will be finding out more about forces, particularly about water resistance and mechanisms. You will then put your knowledge to the test to design a catapult! We will also be discovering more about our amazing Earth and Space. In addition, we will become weavers this term and create some dragon art too. 

Homework will come home at the end of the first full week back. As always, keep up your reading at home and doing the book bingo challenges.  Super spellers work will begin later in the term. You will have a spelling book mark to bring between school and home to help develop your spelling knowledge. We will continue to use TT Rockstars so you can become Rock Legends at your times tables. It helps so much in school!

Teachers - Mrs Pietersen is will be teaching you Monday to Thursday. Mrs Davine will teach you on Wednesday afternoon and Friday.

PE - Indoor P.E is Gymnastics then Dance on a Wednesday and Mr North will be teaching on Thursday each week (earrings must be out for P.E please). Please ensure a full P.E. kit is in school on these days.

Swimming is on a Monday morning (beg. 14/9/26)

Spellings - We will be checking where you are up to with your spelling skills and then creating 'Spelling Bookmarks' each week for each of you, which you will be bringing between home and school every week. These are personalised spellings for you to have with you while you are writing and for practising so you become a super speller. You can choose some words from the 'Super Speller' sheet you will bring home, or the words on the bookmark, to practise for homework. The bookmarks are so helpful, and we'd really appreciate it if they came into school tucked in reading records each day. 

We will send home Super Speller sheets when we move onto a new list. Parents, please check the words that the children are practising, and if you tick them when your child spells them right, they can come back to have them ticked off their main list here! When they have completed the sheet they can have a new one. 

Reading - You will read to the us over the first few weeks so we can place you on the appropriate book band for this term. Please read a variety of books from this book band and record what you have read in your Reading Record - Book Title, Date, pages read. You could make a comment about the book as you read it or at the end. If you have other books you like to read at home you can also read them and record them in your Reading Record. Anything you read is counted as reading! My favourite author is Tom Palmer - you could try some of his books.

Homework - Termly homework can be found stuck in your new Year 5 homework book, and there will be a digital copy uploaded to the homework section of our class page. Please try to do as many of the fun activities as possible. They link to our termly topics. You can bring them in for me to see once you have done one task, or two tasks, or all of the tasks. House points and prizes will be awarded!
