Our first topic is... Blast from the Past, a historical topic.
Year 6 will be studying what life was like for children during World War Two. They will learn about iconic events such as The Battle of Britain and The Blitz and how these affected every day life. In DT they will be learning about how to join and strengthen materials and will then work in teams to build and then test a model air raid shelter for our Lego man, Fred. Our science investigations will be centred around the topic of the Blackout and how we need light to see. There will be a range of writing opportunities from diary entries to adventurous stories set in this time.
Our whole class read will be a wonderful book by Emma Carroll - Letters from the Lighthouse. This follows the adventures of Olive, a girl who is evacuated with her younger brother to the Dorset coast. Olive tries to puzzle out a mystery involving her big sister's disappearance and a secret code....but will we solve the secrets before Olive does?
